STOP THE DAM

Kings Beach – Let the salt be 🌊

News - 14/10/2026

Notes from the community meeting

Sorry these took a while, someone typed them on their phone during the meeting so there might be mistakes and if we got something wrong please email us.

1. Welcome

About 40 people came which is a lot more than last time and we ended up bringing chairs in from the kitchen. We started with an acknowledgement of country.

2. Update on the wall

Still no answer from Dam Kings Beach about whether they have tested the salt, we have now asked three times. Someone suggested asking again in a bigger font so that will go in the next email.

3. Is the salt getting worse?

This took up most of the meeting. About half the room felt the salt at Kings has gotten stronger over the years and about a quarter said it was about the same, and the rest said they had never really thought about the salt until they saw the posters and now they notice it all the time. Someone's brother-in-law has worked out that at 847 tonnes a year it would take about 5.7 trillion years for Kings to make a difference to the ocean, but nobody could check his working and there was some discussion about whether that helps us or not, so we agreed to leave it out of the statement as well.

4. Natural options

The seaweed people and the mycelium person had a good chat during the break. There was a question about whether seaweed and mycelium could work together which nobody knew the answer to, so someone is going to find out and report back.

5. Posters

Thank you to whoever printed the last lot. Please only put posters up where you have permission and please not on the track signs at Kings, as we have had a friendly email about that.

6. Cham's

It was proposed that we boycott Cham's salami. This wasn't agreed because a few people said they have been buying it for years and it is very good, so the group's position is that the problem is the funding of the wall and not the salami, and anyone who wants to boycott it personally is welcome to.
